GRADUATION HONOR CORDS
An honor cord is a long cord made up of twisted or intertwined strands with a tassel on each end. The cords can be a single color or a combination of colors. Honor cords can be worn in pairs, with the two cords tied together at their midpoints. The cords are worn around the neck with the ends of the cords hanging down the front side of the graduate's gown and two tassels on each side.
The honor cord is used to signify that the wearer has attained some specific honor or distinction, academic or otherwise. An honor cord is often bestowed on students who are members of a specific honor society. Colleges may award honor cords to students who graduate with honors, such as cum laude, magna cum laude, or summa cum laude. Different colors of honor cords can be used to signify different accomplishments or affiliations within each specific college or high school.

GRADUATION STOLES
A stole is two pieces of fabric sewn together to form a piece of clothing that drapes around the wearer’s neck and shoulders and hangs down the front of the robe. The ends of the stole are often pointed, and in many ceremonies cords are worn over them.
Stoles can be of any color, although what color they are is often specific to your school or university. They can be school colors or a color that traditionally represents your college or department. Stoles can also be personalized with embroidery to show off the accomplishments of the wearer, such as by adding a fraternity or sorority’s Greek letters, listing one’s major, or graduation year.

CAPS, GOWNS, AND TASSELS
It has been an age-old tradition of graduates to wear graduation caps and gowns. In a way, the cap and gown symbolizes how special the day is in that only those who have toiled and persevered are given the right to wear them.
As graduates walk down the aisle to their respective seats, the cap and gown adds to the feeling of pride that finally one chapter of their life has been successfully completed. They can now advance to the next stage-thus, the term commencement, which means beginning rather than the end are what many people attribute the graduation ceremony to.
Graduation tassels consist of a series of colored threads, bound together by a metal clip and hung from a long corded loop. The graduation tassel has significance within the graduation ceremony, serving as a symbol of rank and accomplishment.
